This is a Catalog Picture of my Harrisville Designs Rug Loom((I can't get far enough away from mine to get a picture of the whole loom)
The following Pictures show the process of getting my loom ready to weave a rug I like warping (dressing) my loom from front to back
Here the warp is going through my tensioning dowels through the reed (on the beater). (Don't you just love these words: warp, beater, reed)
Here all the warp is through the reed and the Peter Collingwood Shaft Switching Device
The warp is now tied to the take-up beam
Here the Weaving has started
Here is the finished rug, approximately 40.5 inches wide and 70 inches long and this is the reverse side. This rug was woven using the Peter Collingwood Shaft Switching Device with 6 warp to the inch.
This is the rug I'm currently working on. It's a three-end block weave using the Peter Collingwood Shaft Switching device woven at 4 warps (or ends) per inch. It's the project "Pedestrian Rug in Black & White" in the January/February Issue of "Handwoven" Magazine. You get a good view of the Shaft Switching Device also in this picture.
Here is the rug, now about 55 inches long, from under the loom going to the rug take-up beam, as of February 7, 2007. Notice I couldn't get far enough back to get the full width of the rug in the picture (the width is about 42 inches.
I finished weaving this rug on February 14, 2007. After removing it from my loom, I then have to finish the fringe, which is the warp end to properly finish the rug (in Navajo Style weaving, when you remove the rug from the loom it's mostly done.
Here is what the ends look like before I start braiding the warp ends. I do a four strand braid, which I think look better than a three stand braid. The following picture shows the braiding started. The following shows one end finished (I'm getting better, it only took me two days). Close up of a section. I noticed from looking at this picture, that the second braid from the left is too long, I'll go back and shorten it the same length as the ones to the right. Note: the left braid I usually leave longer as it actually consists of eight strands. I finished this rug on February 18, 2007. The size off the loom was approximately 43.5 inches wide by 67.5 inches long. The rug used over 9 pounds of yarn (38 skeins, which weight about 4 ounces). The rug is pictured on my "Rugs for Sale" page.
This is the rug I'm currently working on. It's another three-end block weave using the Peter Collingwood Shaft Switching device woven at 4 warps (or ends) per inch. I based the design of this rug on one of the designs on the ruins at Mitla, Mexico. I finished this on and the completed picture is on the for sale page.
This is the rug I'm currently working on. It's called Desert Squares. I finished this rug on September 3, 2007. For a completed picture check my For Sale Page. From Top of loom
